Listen to recollections of people who bore witness to the events of 1938
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of when Hitler’s troops marched into Austria the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism has put together videos containing excerpts from the autobiographical testimonies of some of the Nazis’ victims, as read by staff of the National Fund and the General Settlement Fund.
In 2008 the National Fund began to publish life stories of the victims of National Socialism on its website to mark the 70th anniversary of the “Anschluss”. Since then, the online collection of memoirs has been continuously growing. These recollections tell of individual fates and personal experiences of the historical events. Each life story is also enhanced using both historical and recent photos and documents.
The life story collection of the National Fund currently includes over 120 memoirs written by applicants to the National Fund and the General Settlement Fund in both English and German.
