Symposion zu Ehren des 80. Geburtstages von Angelica Bäumer Zeitgeschichte ohne Zeitzeugen Vom Mythos des Zeitzeugen. Ein Abend und ein Tag

 

The multi-disciplinary symposium which was held in Vienna in November 2012 marked the 80th birthday of Prof. Angelica Bäumer. The subject of the symposium is not only closely connected to Angelica Bäumer’s personal story but is also of particular social, historical and educational importance: in the near future, there will no longer be any surviving eyewitnesses who can pass on to the next generation their knowledge about the years 1938 to 1945 gained from personal experience and, following on from this, be able to speak to their listeners and discuss with them modern political problems from an authentic perspective. Before this backdrop, the question arises, what can and should still be done in contemporary historical education in the time we have remaining with the active involvement of surviving eyewitnesses – as people who not only explain and analyze but have actually experienced history. The symposium aims to critically reflect and discuss the mentioned issues from various areas of expertise in the form of thematically structured panels (psychology and psychotherapy, historical and political perspectives, approaches on political education, media representation) from the eyewitnesses’ perspective.

Anlass des multidisziplinär ausgerichteten Symposions, das Ende November 2012 in Wien stattfand, war der 80. Geburtstag Prof. Angelica Bäumers. Das Thema des Symposions ist nicht nur mit der persönlichen Geschichte Angelica Bäumers eng verbunden, sondern auch von besonderer gesellschaftspolitischer, zeithistorischer und pädagogischer Bedeutung: In naher Zukunft wird es keine ZeitzeugInnen mehr geben, die ihr Wissen, insbesondere über die Jahre 1938 bis 1945, aus unmittelbarer Erfahrung an die nachfolgenden Generationen weitergeben und davon ausgehend aus einer authentischen Perspektive mit ihrer Zuhörerschaft auch aktuelle politische Problematiken ansprechen und diskutieren können. Vor diesem Hintergrund stellen sich Fragen danach, was in der verbleibenden Zeit der aktiven Mitwirkung von ZeitzeugInnen – als Persönlichkeiten, die zwar auch erklären und analysieren, aber Zeitgeschichte eben auch erlebt haben – in der zeithistorischen Vermittlung noch getan werden kann und soll. Das Symposion setzt sich zum Ziel, die genannten Problemstellungen aus unterschiedlichen fachlichen Perspektiven in Form thematisch strukturierter Panels (Psychologie und Psychotherapie, zeitgeschichtliche und politikwissenschaftliche Perspektiven, Zugänge der Politischen Bildung, mediale Repräsentationen) und aus der Sichtweise von ZeitzeugInnen kritisch zu reflektieren und zu diskutieren.
