Services Program for Austrian Victims of Nazi Persecution in New York

Project

Description

Founded in 1936 in New York, it was the organization’s task to provide assistance to people who had fled Nazi Germany. Selfhelp’s task today is dealing with the needs of survivors in the New York State area, such as home help, social programs, home visits, assistance in filling out forms etc. In recent years, Selfhelp has assisted around 4,100 Holocaust survivors. As they are becoming increasingly aged, they also require increasing levels of care. In 2004, the National Fund was requested to support around 160 needy “former-Austrians” in these matters.
