In 1939, at the age of 34, Dr. Ludwig Popper had to leave Vienna with his family as he was Jewish. Via Switzerland, he managed to reach Bolivia. From his diaries, an image can be gathered of the situation of Jewish doctors in Vienna and life in Bolivia. A chronology can be drawn from his writings, which describe the difficulties of leaving Europe, finding a country willing to accept a family fleeing Nazi persecution, life in the “New World” Bolivia and the many problems there for people from Europe.

1939 musste Dr. Ludwig Popper im Alter von 34 Jahren als Jude mit seiner Familie Österreich verlassen. Über die Schweiz gelang er nach Bolivien. Anhand seiner Tagebücher entsteht ein Bild der Situation insbesondere jüdischer Ärzte in Wien und dem Leben in Bolivien. Aus diesen Aufzeichnungen ist eine Chronologie entstanden, wobei neben den Schwierigkeiten, aus Europa wegzukommen, ein Land zu finden, welches bereit war, eine Familie auf der Flucht vor der Verfolgung der NS-Diktatur aufzunehmen, das Leben in der 'Neuen Welt' Bolivien mit all seinen Problemen für Menschen aus Europa das weitere tragende Thema des Buches darstellt.
