The present research project will explicitly deal with events in 1941 and is not to be considered an extension to the volume "Resistance and Persecution in Salzburg 1934-1945, which was published in 1991 under the aegis of the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance. Through preliminary research in various sources such as applicants for victims' welfare, transcripts of the Nazi courts or contemporary witness interviews, it was possible to determine that there were resistance fighters in Salzburg whose stories had never been mentioned in the annals of history. This situation encouraged the project team to take up the "unknown and forgotten history" of the Salzburg resistance fighters. A second focus for the research projects will be professions in Salzburg, teachers, public officials, police, doctors, lawyers, and sportsmen and women with regard to possible collective or professional resistance against the Nazi dictatorship. Like the investigations into personal fates, particular attention should be paid to whether dismissals or bans on practising a profession took place before or after the Russian campaign in order to prove a causal connection between the events in accordance with the hypothesis.

Das vorliegende Forschungsprojekt möchte sich explizit nur mit Ereignissen im Jahr 1941 beschäftigen, und versteht sich nicht als Fortführungsprojekt des Bandes „Widerstand und Verfolgung in Salzburg 1934 – 1945“, welches 1991 unter Federführung des DÖW entstanden ist. Durch eine Vor-Recherche verschiedener Quellen wie etwa Anträge der Opferfürsorge, Gerichtsprotokolle der NS-Justiz oder auch Zeitzeugeninterviews konnte festgestellt werden, dass es in Salzburg WiderstandskämpferInnen gab, deren Schicksal historisch nie Erwähnung gefunden hat. Für das Projektteam hat dieser Umstand den Ausschlag dafür gegeben sich näher mit den „unbekannten und vergessenen“ Salzburger Widerstandskämpfern auseinanderzusetzen. Als zweites Augenmerk des Forschungsprojektes sollen auch Berufsgruppen in Salzburg, Lehrer, Beamte, Polizisten, Ärzte, Rechtsanwälte, Priester, Künstler und Sportler im Hinblick auf einen möglichen kollektiven bzw. beruflichen Widerstand gegen die nationalsozialistische Diktatur untersucht werden. Wie auch bei der Untersuchung der Einzelschicksale, soll genau darauf geachtet werden, ob Entlassungen oder Berufsverbote vor oder nach dem Russlandfeldzug stattgefunden haben um eine Kausalität der Ereignisse gemäß der Hypothese nachzuweisen.
