Martin Karplus was born in Vienna on 15 March 1930 and was forced to leave by the Nazis in 1938.The film provides a portrait of Martin Karplus at the places central to his life and work, at Harvard and in Strasbourg. It is an attempt to present his research in an easily comprehensible manner and to provide an outlook of possible impacts in the fields of medicine and pharmacology. The film team accompanies Martin Karplus to Vienna, where in spring 2015 he will be awarded an honorary doctorate and an exhibition of his photos, 77 years after he was forced to leave, to mark the 650th anniversary of the University of Vienna.

Martin Karplus ist am 15. März 1930 in Wien geboren und 1938 von den Nationalsozialisten vertrieben worden. Der Film porträtiert Martin Karplus an den Orten seines Lebens und seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit in Harvard und Straßburg. Es ist ein Versuch, seine Forschungsergebnisse verständlich darzustellen und einen Ausblick auf mögliche Auswirkungen für die Medizin und Pharmakologie zu geben. Das Filmteam begleitet Martin Karplus nach Wien, wo er im Frühjahr 2015 zum 650. Jubiläum der Universität mit dem Ehrendoktorat und einer Ausstellung seiner Fotos geehrt wird, 77 Jahre nach seiner Vertreibung.
