The concentration camps Gusen I, II and III together form the largest and most terrible concentration camp complex on the territory of present day Austria and, although exceeding the much more famous central camp Mauthausen in terms of victims, size and number of prisoners, due to the extremely high death rate they have almost entirely been forgotten today. For years, a week of remembrance has been held in these concentration camps with survivors and their families on the initiative of both locals and people internationally.

Die Konzentrationslager Gusen I, II, und III stellten zusammen den größten und auch schrecklichsten Konzentrationslagerkomplex auf heute wieder österreichischem Staatsgebiet dar und sind, obwohl sie in ihrer Dimension das viel bekanntere Zentrallager Mauthausen hinsichtlich Opfer, Größe und Häftlingszahl bei weitem übertrafen, aufgrund der extrem hohen Todesraten heute so gut wie in Vergessenheit geraten. Seit Jahren wird in diesen Lagern aus lokal-internationaler Initiative ein Gedenkwochenende zusammen mit Überlebenden und deren Angehörigen, veranstaltet.
