Description
The AJJDC is a politically unaffiliated non-profit organization which has so far help construct a social infrastructure for over 220,000 aged and needy Jews in the form of a network of “Hesed Welfare Centers” in over 1,900 towns and villages in the former Soviet Union. One of these welfare centers is located in Czernowitz, once a center of Austrian culture. Today, the majority of Ukrainian Holocaust survivors live in Czernowitz, around 4,500 people, around half of whom are very old. The aim of the project is to cover the operating costs of this institution for one year. The services offered included grocery packages, home visits, communal cooking, meals-on-wheels, winter provision packets (heating materials, winter clothes, and blankets), medical care and equipment and social and cultural programs.

Die AJJDC ist eine apolitische non-profit organisation, die bisher in über 1.900 Städten und Dörfern der FSU (Former Soviet Union) geholfen hat, eine soziale Infrastruktur für über 220.000 alte und bedürftige Juden in Form eines Netzwerkes von Hesed Welfare Centers aufzubauen. Eines dieser Welfare Centers befindet sich in Czernowitz, einst Zentrum österreichischer Kulturgeschichte. Heute lebt ein Großteil der Holocaust-Überlebenden der Ukraine in Czernowitz, es handelt sich um ca. 4.500 Personen, von denen die Hälfte sehr alt ist. Ziel des eingereichten Projektes ist es, die Kosten für ein Betriebsjahr dieser Institution abzudecken. Die angebotenen Serviceleistungen für die Betroffenen umfassen Lebensmittelpakete, Hausbesuche, Gemeinschaftsküche, Essen-auf-Rädern, Winter-Verpflegungspakete (die Heizmaterialien, Winterkleidung sowie Decken enthalten), Medizinische Versorgung und Ausstattung sowie soziale und kulturelle Programme.
