David Walter Weiss, born 1927 in Wiener Neustadt had to flee Austria with his family to America at the age of eleven. In 1995 he returned to his hometown Wiener Neustadt for the first time since 1938. His encounters with the Austrians of today impressed him so much that he then wrote his autobiography with the title “Reluctant Return – a Survivor’s Journey to an Austrian Town”. This late autobiography is the successful outcome of an exile’s reconciliation with present-day Austria.

David Walter Weiss, geboren 1927 in Wiener Neustadt, musste als elfjähriger Junge gemeinsam mit seiner Familie aus Österreich nach Amerika fliehen. Im Jahr 1995 kehrte er das erste Mal seit 1938 in seine Heimatstadt Wiener Neustadt zurück. Diese Begegnung mit den Menschen des heutigen Österreichs hat ihn derartig positiv beeindruckt, dass er anschließend seine Biographie mit dem Titel 'Die Widerstrebende Wiederkehr - Die Reise eines Überlebenden in eine österreichische Stadt' (Reluctant Return - A Survivor's Journey to an Austrian Town) schrieb. Diese späte Biographie ist das gelungene Ergebnis der versuchten Versöhnung eines Vertriebenen mit dem heutigen Österreich.
