Description

In the Czech Republic, a national day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust was held for the first time on 27 January 2004. To mark this occasion, the working community ARGE, the Jewish Community Prague, the Austrian Culture Forum Prague, the Mauthausen Committee Austria, the Jewish Community Austria and the International Mauthausen Committee planned the performance of the visualized oratorio “The Song of Terezin” in Prague. The oratorio was composed in 1964/5 by Franz Waxmann. It is a tonal poem written by the children in barracks L 318 and L 417 aged between 10 and 16 in the National Socialist “model” concentration camp Theresienstadt.

In Tschechien wird am 27. Januar 2004 zum ersten Mal ein nationaler Gedenktag für die Opfer des Holocaust begangen. Aus diesem Anlass planen die Arbeitsgemeinschaft ARGE, die Jüdische Gemeinde Prag, das Österreichische Kulturforum Prag und das Mauthausen Komitee Österreich sowie die Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Österreich und das Internationale Mauthausen Komitee die szenische Aufführung des visualisierten Oratoriums 'The Song of Terezin' in Prag. Das Oratorium wurde von Franz Waxman 1964/65 komponiert. Es handelt sich um vertonte Gedichte, geschrieben von den Kindern in den Baracken L 318 und L 417 im Alter von 10-16 Jahren im NS-'Vorzeige'-Konzentrationslager Theresienstadt.
