Through the joint effort of all homosexual initiatives in Austria, in 1984 the first memorial plaque for the homosexual victims of the Nazi regime was erected. To mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp, a symposium on the persecution of lesbians and gays during the Nazi era was held to remember the most deadly form of persecution and to present the most recent research in this field - focus was placed on Austria, with particular emphasis on the various forms of discrimination of lesbians and gays.

Durch gemeinsame Anstrengung aller homosexuellen Initiativen Österreichs wurde in Mauthausen 1984 der erste Gedenkstein für die homosexuellen Opfer des NS-Regimes errichtet. Anlässlich des 60. Jahrestags der Befreiung des KZ Mauthausen soll ein Symposium über die Verfolgung von Lesben und Schwulen in der NS-Zeit in Österreich an die tödlichste Form der Verfolgung erinnern und anknüpfen und den aktuellsten Forschungsstand über diesen Gegenstandsbereich präsentieren - mit Schwerpunkt Österreich, wobei besonderes Augenmerk auf die unterschiedlichen Formen von Diskriminierung von Lesben bzw. Schwulen gelegt werden soll.
