Memorial for the Jewish Victims of the Ebensee Concentration Camp

According to historical research, around 3,200 men who were deemed Jewish, primarily from Hungary, Poland, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Greece and other countries, died in Ebensee concentration camp. Up to this time, only a memorial to the Hungarian victims had existed in the victims’ cemetery in Ebensee and a memorial for the former Jewish community in Bad Ischl from 1946. A central memorial for all Jewish victims of the concentration camp Ebensee was then erected.

Laut historischer Recherche sind im KZ Ebensee etwa 3.200 als Juden kategorisierte Männer primär aus Ungarn, Polen, Russland, Tschechoslowakei, Rumänien, Griechenland und anderen Staaten ums Leben gekommen. Bislang existiert am KZ-Opferfriedhof in Ebensee ein Mahnmal für die ungarischen jüdischen Opfer und ein aus dem Jahr 1946 stammendes Denkmal der damaligen jüdischen Gemeinde in Bad Ischl. Nun soll ein zentrales Mahnmals für alle jüdischen Opfer des Konzentrationslagers Ebensee errichtet werden.
