Stating the victims' names' - Remembrance project in the Concentration Camp Memorial Ebensee

'Den Opfern die Namen wiedergeben' - Mahnmalprojekt in der KZ-Gedenkstätte Ebensee

Project

Description

Since the liberation, individual memorials have been situated on the site of the former concentration camp, and since 1952 there has been a cemetery ensemble with graves and national memorials. Although the names of the victims from 20 nations are known, the victims in the memorial remain anonymous, nameless. A memorial with the names of the victims was therefore to be erected. The memorial was to be “interdenominational”, i.e. dedicated to all victims of the Ebensee concentration camp regardless of origin, denomination, nationality and prisoner category dictated by the National Socialist authorities.
