Theater play 'Roma back to India'

Theaterstück 'Roma zurück nach Indien'

 

The provocative title, a quotation of the writing on the board which carried the deadly bomb is representative of the intensive and sophisticated confrontation with the ongoing difficult situation of the Roma in Europe. The play took the audience on a journey through the past, through the history of the Roma from the Second World War and Nazi era to the present. A story which is characterized by discrimination, persecution and exclusion. But also a story which is full of passiveness an suppression among the Roma themselves. Both sides were to be considered from a critical standpoint.

Der provokante Titel, welcher die Aufschrift auf jener Tafel, die die tödliche Bombe trug, zitiert, steht für eine intensive und differenzierte Auseinandersetzung mit der nach wie vor prekären Situation der Roma in Europa. Das Stück will die ZuschauerInnen mitnehmen auf eine Reise durch die Vergangenheit, durch die Geschichte der Roma vom Zweiten Weltkrieg und der NS-Zeit bis in die Gegenwart. Eine Geschichte, die durchwegs geprägt ist von Diskriminierung, Verfolgung und Ausschluss. Eine Geschichte, die aber auch voller Passivität und Verdrängung unter den Roma selbst ist. Beide Seiten sollen mit kritischen Blicken bedacht werden.
