From July 1940 until the end of the war, 800 children and young people were murdered as part of the National Socialist child euthanasia. For the most part, the brains of the victims were stored. Not until April 2002 were some of them finally buried. For the premiere of the Volkstheater under the direction of Schottenberg, the Austrian director and choreographer Johann Kresnik dealt with the subject and, with his librettist Christoph Klimke, posed controversial questions about the value of people in our modern society.

Von Juli 1940 bis zum Kriegsende wurden am 'Spiegelgrund' 800 Kinder und Jugendliche im Rahmen der NS-Kindereuthanasie ermordet. Die Gehirne der Opfer wurden zum größten Teil aufbewahrt. Erst im April 2002 wurde ein Teil von ihnen bestattet. Für die Eröffnungspremiere des Volkstheaters in der Direktion Schottenberg wird sich der österreichische Regisseur und Choreograph Johann Kresnik des Stoffes annehmen und gemeinsam mit seinem Librettisten Christoph Klimke brisante Fragen nach dem Wert des Menschen in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft stellen.
