The National Socialist era on the territory of “annexed“ Austria did not give rise to any structural changes but rather a drastic increase in convictions, sentences, and punitive sanctions as well as special decrees, castration, camps and murder. The exhibition “Lives of Secrecy” firstly collected and presented historical objects which were ideal for providing information on the subject and tell history as coincidental points of reference. Secondly, the justified mistrust of historical artifacts in general and of the project of “thrown together” collections was addressed and could be felt in the exhibition.

Die NS-Zeit auf dem Gebiet des 'angeschlossenen' Österreich brachte keine strukturellen Änderungen, sondern kannte lediglich eine drastische Erhöhung der Verurteilungen, Strafmaße und Strafsanktionen sowie von Sondererlassen, Kastration, Lager und Ermordung. Die Ausstellung 'Geheimsache Leben' will zum einen zwar historische Gegenstände zusammentragen und präsentieren, die geeignet sind, über das gestellte Thema Auskunft zu geben bzw. als zufälliger Anhaltspunkt Geschichte zu erzählen. Andererseits soll das gebotene Misstrauen zu historischen Gegenständen im Allgemeinen und zum Projekt einer zusammengestellten Sammlung ebenso zum Thema gemacht werden bzw. in der Ausstellung spürbar sein.
