The Ibero-American conference: Migration – exile – identity. Jewish Diaspora to Ibero-America: for thousands of Austrian Jews, the countries of Latin America became a last place of refuge between 1938 and 1945, just as the USA. For several years, renowned scientists and filmmakers have been dealing with the subject of the Jewish Diaspora to different countries in America, whereby above all the flight of the Austrian Jews formed the focus of this confrontation with the subject. The portrayal of flight and exile, also using original film material, not only remembers the surviving victims but also portrays the host countries as rays of hope. A publication also presented the outcome of the project in printed form.

Iberoamerikanische Konferenz: Migration - Exil - Identität Jüdische Diaspora nach Iberoamerika: Für Tausende österreichische Jüdinnen und Juden wurden die Länder Lateinamerikas zwischen 1938 und 1945 ebenso zum letzten Zufluchtsort wie dies bekannter Weise für die USA gilt. Seit einigen Jahren schon beschäftigen sich namhafte WissenschaftlerInnen, aber auch FilmemacherInnen mit dem Thema der jüdischen Diaspora in den verschiedenen Ländern Amerikas, wobei gerade die Flucht österreichischer Jüdinnen und Juden im Zentrum der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema steht. Die Darstellung von Flucht und Exil, auch anhand einiger originärer Filmdokumente, erinnert nicht nur an die überlebenden Opfer, sondern positioniert auch die Gastgeberländer als Hoffnungsträger. Ein Tagungsband soll die Ergebnisse des Projekts auch in publizierbarer Form präsentieren.
