The “Path of Remembrance” was conceived as a large project for the entire Leopoldstadt. Firstly, it was intended to lead to many of the important places of former Jewish life and, secondly, to render visible the history of expulsion and murder of the Jewish population. In this way, the Jews who were expelled and murdered were to symbolically regain a place in their former district and give relatives a chance to immortalize their parents, grandparents and siblings. Taking these examples, the association wants to keep the memory of Jewish life and the culture destroyed by the Nazis alive in the 2nd District.

Der 'Weg der Erinnerung' ist als größeres Projekt für die gesamte Leopoldstadt gedacht. Er soll einerseits zu vielen für das frühere jüdische Leben in der Leopoldstadt bedeutsamen Punkten führen und andererseits die Geschichte der Vertreibung und Ermordung der jüdischen Bevölkerung sichtbar machen. Auf diese Weise soll symbolisch den von hier vertriebenen und ermordeten jüdischen EinwohnerInnen wieder einen Platz in ihrem Heimatbezirk gegeben werden und den Angehörigen die Chance, ihre Eltern, Großeltern und Geschwister zu verewigen. Durch diese Beispiele will der Verein die Erinnerung an das jüdische Leben und an die von den Nazis zerstörte Kultur in der Leopoldstadt wach halten.
