The aim of the “Beit Hatfutsot Museum: The Museum of the Jewish People” is to help people worldwide who want to investigate their Austrian roots with a database that is free of charge. “Beit Hatfutsot” will present Jewish life throughout Austria and present the full spectrum of Jewish culture on location. The National Fund has already sponsored the original project. A further subsidy will be used make the extended version of the digital presentation “The Jewish Communities in Austria” available for all online users. The digital exhibition includes historical, geographical and demographic data on Jewish communities in Austria. The database offers a detailed picture of Jewish life over the course of the centuries and acts as a tool for preserving communal and cultural Jewish memory: biographies of Jewish personalities from Austria, both historical and recent, articles on similar subjects, the history of the Jewish community in Austria, “A Years of Jewish Life in Vienna” and societal and private events from the media. Maps, some of them interactive, photos and films that portray Jewish history, culture and traditions in Austria and, last but not least, recordings of Jewish music from Austria complete the database.

Ziel des „Beit Hatfutsot Museums: The Museum of the Jewish People“ ist es, weltweit Menschen mittels einer kostenlos zugänglichen Datenbank zu helfen, die sich mit ihren österreichischen Wurzeln beschäftigen wollen. „Beit Hatfutsot“ wird das jüdische Leben in ganz Österreich präsentieren und jüdische Kultur vor Ort in voller Breite darstellen. Der Nationalfonds hat das ursprüngliche Projekt bereits gefördert. Mit einer weiteren Förderung wird das Projekt die Erweiterung der digitalen Darstellung „Die jüdischen Gemeinden von Österreich“ für alle Online-User nutzbar machen. Die digitale Ausstellung umfasst historische, geographische und demographische Daten über jüdische Gemeinden in Österreich. Die Datenbank zeichnet ein detailliertes Bild des jüdischen Leben im Laufe der Jahrhunderte und stellt ein Tool für das Bewahren der gemeinschaftlichen und kulturellen jüdischen Erinnerung: Biographien jüdischer Persönlichkeiten aus Österreich von damals und heute, Artikel über ähnliche Themen, Geschichte der jüdischen Gemeinschaft in Österreich, „Ein Jahr jüdisches Leben in Wien“ sowie gesellschaftliche und private Veranstaltungen aus den Medien. Landkarten, die zum Teil interaktiv sind, Fotos und Filme, die jüdische Geschichte, Kultur und Traditionen in Österreich zeigen und nicht zuletzt Aufnahmen jüdischer Musik aus Österreich vervollständigen die Datenbank.
