In late 1941/early 1942, as result of the requirements of war, the concentration camps underwent a change in function. The concentration camp inmates were increasingly deployed as slave labor in the armaments industry. In order to encourage efficiency, the SS introduced a “bonus system”. In line with the 5-tier bonus system, inmates who distinguished themselves through hard work, attention to detail, good behavior and particularly good work” received certain rewards, whereby the highest reward was a visit to the camp brothel. As a result, on the orders of the Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler, camp brothels were set up in numerous concentration camps in which female inmates were forced into prostitution. The consequences of these rapes often led to mental trauma, STDs, abortion and death.

Ende 1941/Anfang 1942 kam es kriegsbedingt zu einem Funktionswandel der Konzentrationslager. Die KZ-Häftlinge sollten vermehrt zur Zwangsarbeit in der Rüstungsindustrie eingesetzt werden. Die SS führte zum Zwecke der Arbeitssteigerung ein 'Prämiensystem' ein. 'Häftlinge, welche sich durch Fleiß, Umsichtigkeit, gute Führung und besondere Arbeitsleistungen auszeichneten', erhielten nach dem fünfstufigen Prämiensystem bestimmte Vergünstigungen, wobei die höchste Vergünstigung der Besuch des Lagerbordells war. Infolgedessen wurden auf Weisung des Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler in zahlreichen Konzentrationslagern Häftlingsbordelle eingerichtet, in denen weibliche Häftlinge Sex-Zwangsarbeit leisten mussten. Die Folgen dieser Vergewaltigungen waren neben seelischen Traumata oft Geschlechtskrankheiten, Zwangsabtreibungen und Tod der Frauen.
