This project researched the fate of the Hungarian Jews who didn’t work behind the walls of a concentration camp but in companies and on farms or on the construction of the so called Southeast Wall along the Austro-Hungarian border. In early 1945, the Jewish forced laborers were forced on death marches through Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Styria and Upper Austria to the concentration camps Mauthausen and Gunskirchen. There were also massacres carried out by the SA, the SS, the peoples unit and the police.

Das Projekt erforscht das Schicksal derjenigen ungarischen Juden und Jüdinnen, die nicht hinter KZ-Mauern, sondern in Betrieben und auf Bauernhöfen oder beim Bau des so genannten Südostwalls entlang der ungarisch-österreichischen Grenze arbeiten mussten. Im Frühjahr 1945 wurden die jüdischen ZwangsarbeiterInnen in Todesmärschen durch Wien, Niederösterreich, das Burgenland, die Steiermark und Oberösterreich in die Konzentrationslager Mauthausen und Gunskirchen getrieben. Es kam aber auch zu Massakern durch SA, SS, Volkssturm und Gendarmen.
