Exhibition: National Socialist Euthanasia in the Province of Salzburg

During the years of National Socialist rule, over 400 sick and disabled people from Salzburg fell victim to the murder operation, which was cynically described by the National Socialists as euthanasia (good death). The lives of these people was deemed to be “unworthy of living”. The aim of this exhibition was to symbolically return to these victims their life stories, their faces, their place among us; to portray the deaths of these people as a loss – not only for their relatives but for our society as a whole.

Während der NS-Herrschaft fielen über 400 kranke und behinderte Salzburger und Salzburgerinnen der Mordaktion, die von den Nationalsozialisten zynischerweise als 'Euthanasie' (schöner Tod) bezeichnet wurde, zum Opfer. Das Leben dieser Menschen wurde als 'lebensunwert' befunden. Ziel dieser Ausstellung ist es, den Opfern der 'NS-Euthanasie' symbolisch ihre Lebensgeschichte, ihr Gesicht, ihren Platz in unserer Mitte zurückzugeben; den Tod dieser Menschen als Verlust darzustellen, nicht nur für die Angehörigen, sondern für unsere Gesellschaft insgesamt.
