Until 1938, Bad Ischl was a center of Jewish cultural activity. Summer visitors to Bad Ischl included composers of operettas, librettists, singer and publishers. Most of them were considered Jewish according to the Nuremberg race laws . Although the town of Bad Ischl attempted to base its identity on this tradition after 1945, today there are no clues as to the radical expulsion of Jewish artists, businessmen and private individuals from the town from March 1938. This project, initiated by the Town of Bad Ischl, attempted to create a basis by investigating all relevant data in this regard. Firstly, a publication was compiled and, in the following years, the towns cultural policies were to place emphasis on remembrance of the history of the Jewish population and its culture and traditions.

Bad Ischl war bis zum Jahr 1938 durchaus ein Zentrum jüdischen Kulturschaffens. Unter den Sommergästen Bad Ischls waren Operettenkomponisten, Librettisten, Sänger und Verleger. Die meisten unter ihnen waren nach den 'Nürnberger Rassegesetzen' Juden. Obwohl die Stadt Bad Ischl ihre Identität nach 1945 auf diese Tradition zu gründen versuchte, findet man heute in der Stadt keinerlei Hinweise auf die ab März 1938 radikale Vertreibung der jüdischen Kulturschaffenden, Gewerbetreibenden und Privatpersonen aus der Stadt. Das nunmehr von der Stadt Bad Ischl initiierte Projekt versucht durch Erhebung aller in diesem Zusammenhang relevanten Daten eine Basis zu schaffen. Zum einen soll eine Publikation erstellt werden, darüber hinaus ist in den Folgejahren geplant, in der Stadt kulturpolitische Akzente zu setzen, die an die Geschichte der jüdischen Bevölkerung und deren kulturelle Tradition erinnern.
