Böhlau Publishers was preparing to publish a comprehensive volume on the lives of women in the 20th century. 26 Austrians, the youngest 75 years old and the oldest 98, recollect their lives in the eventful 20th century. They include well known people such as the author Gertrud Fussenegger, Ella Lingens, the doctor who worked in Auschwitz, the painter Edith Kramer, the socialist fighter Franziska Fasr, the contemporary historian Erika Weinzierl, but also women who where largely ignored by the wider public. These include a Sinti woman, a Slovenian farmer’s wife, two Communists and three Jews, two of whom returned to Austria, and a woman who still lives in the USA today.

Der Böhlau Verlag bereitet die Herausgabe eines umfassenden Bandes über Frauenleben im 20. Jahrhundert vor. 26 Österreicherinnen, die Jüngste von ihnen 75 Jahre und die Älteste 98 Jahre alt, erzählen ihr Leben im ereignisreichen 20. Jahrhundert. Darunter sind bekannte Persönlichkeiten wie die Schriftstellerin Gertrud Fussenegger, die in Auschwitz tätige Ärztin Ella Lingens, die Malerin Edith Kramer, die sozialistische Kämpferin Franziska Fast, die Zeithistorikerin Erika Weinzierl, aber auch Frauen, die bisher kaum von einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit beachtet wurden. So befinden sich unter ihnen auch eine Sinti-Frau, eine slowenische Bäuerin, zwei Kommunistinnen sowie drei Jüdinnen, davon zwei Reimmigrantinnen und eine Frau, die bis heute in den USA lebt.
