Ein sichtbares Zeichen - Mahnmal im Zentrum der Stadt Gleisdorf

 

Taking as a basis the series of events “Future needs remembrance: The death march of Hungarian Jews through east Styria in spring 1945”, held in April 2006, a visible sign of warning and encouragement was to be erected. This sign was to build a bridge from the death march to the many different forms of racism and violence in the present. School students from Gleisdorf were invited to participate in a competition for ideas for the memorial .

Ausgehend von der im April des Vorjahres durchgeführten Veranstaltungsreihe 'Zukunft braucht Erinnerung. Der Todesmarsch ungarischer Jüdinnen und Juden durch die Oststeiermark im Frühjahr 1945' gibt es konkrete Überlegungen zur Errichtung eines sichtbaren Zeichens zum Zwecke der Mahnung und Ermutigung. Das Zeichen soll den Bogen schaffen vom Todesmarsch bis hin zu den vielschichtigen Formen von Rassismus und Gewalt in der Gegenwart. Gleisdorfer SchülerInnen werden zur Teilnahme am Ideenwettbewerb zur Gestaltung des zu errichtenden Zeichens eingeladen.
