Production of a 'Handbook of Austrian Exile Literature'

The handbook was intended to provide an overview of historical circumstances, of Austrian organizational and cultural initiatives from exile, of exile literature and its effects in the first decades of the Second Republic. It therefore contains an introduction to the basic problems of exile literature, a specialist lexicon of the cultural institutions of exile such as newspapers, theatres, publishing houses, committees and much more. The most comprehensive part is a bio- and bibliographical lexicon of names with around 800 entries. Moreover, a timeline of exile was to illustrate the events relevant for the fates and journeys of the refugees.

Das Handbuch soll eine Zusammenschau der historischen Umstände, der österreichischen organisatorischen und kulturellen Initiativen des Exils, der Exilliteratur und ihrer Wirkung in den ersten Jahrzehnten der Zweiten Republik ermöglichen. Es umfasst daher eine Einführung in die Grundprobleme der Exilliteratur sowie ein Sachlexikon der kulturellen Einrichtungen des Exils wie Zeitschriften, Theater, Verlage, Komitees und vieles mehr. Den quantitativ umfangreichsten Teil bildet das bio-bibliografische Personenlexikon mit ca. 800 Einträgen. Weiters soll eine Chronik des Exils die für die Schicksale und Wege der Flüchtlinge relevanten Ereignisse aufzeigen.
