Summer 2007 saw the 60th anniversary of the events surrounding the so called “Krimmler exodus“. From June until August 1947, around 5000 Jewish refugees crossed the Krimmler Tauern in order to eventually reach Palestine. On 29 June 2007, a commemorative crossing of the Krimmler Tauern took place. This “memorial march” with over 100 participants took place not only in memory of the “Jewish flight of 1947”, it is also dedicated to everyone fleeing political, racial or religious persecution today, wherever it occurs in the world. The notion of building a bridge from the past to the future, and with reference to current events, reaching as many people and organizations with similar outlooks was one of the aims of this project. A ceremony provided the memorial crossing with a worthy backdrop.

Im Sommer 2007 jähren sich zum 60. Mal die Ereignisse rund um den sogenannten 'Krimmler Exodus'. Von Juni bis August 1947 überquerten etwa 5000 jüdische Flüchtlinge den Krimmler Tauern, um in weiterer Folge nach Palästina zu gelangen. Am 29. Juni 2007 soll nun eine Gedächtnisüberquerung des Krimmler Tauern stattfinden. Dieser 'Gedenkmarsch' von mehr als 100 Menschen erfolgt nicht nur in Erinnerung an die 'Judenflucht 1947', es ist eine Überquerung, die ebenso allen heutigen Menschen auf der Flucht vor politischer, rassischer oder religiöser Verfolgung gewidmet ist, wo immer sich diese auf der Welt manifestiert. Der Gedanke, eine Brücke von der Vergangenheit in die Gegenwart zu bauen und unter Bezug auf aktuelle Ereignisse möglichst viele gleichgesinnte Menschen und Organisationen zu erreichen, ist eines der Ziele des Projekts. Ein Festakt soll der Gedächtnisüberquerung einen würdevollen Rahmen verleihen.
