'Hollywood in Vienna' - Konzertgala zu Ehren Erich Wolfgang Korngolds anlässlich seines 50. Todestages

 

This year, to mark the 50th anniversary of his death, the gala concert "Hollywood in Vienna“ was dedicated to one of the most important Viennese composers, Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The gala took place on 29 November 2007 in the great hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus. On the same day, at the initiative of the “Friends of the Jewish Museum” a memorial plaque was mounted on the building in Vienna where Erich Korngold used to live. To accompany the concert, the association “Austria in Hollywood” also additionally initiated a film retrospective on Korngold in the Film Museum and tours through the city to his former places of work and residence. The aim of the mentioned activities is to again give Erich Korngold, who once counted among the most important and popular composers in Vienna and thought himself to have been forgotten by his hometown after his forced emigration, a place in Austrian consciousness.

Anlässlich seines 50. Todestages ist die Konzertgala 'Hollywood in Vienna' dieses Jahr einem der bedeutendsten Wiener Komponisten gewidmet, Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Die Gala findet am 29. November 2007 im großen Saal des Wiener Konzerthauses statt und am selben Tag wird auch auf Initiative der 'Freunde des Jüdischen Museums' eine Gedenktafel an Korngolds ehemaligem Wiener Wohnhaus angebracht. Begleitend zum Konzert hat der Verein 'Austria in Hollywood' zusätzlich eine Filmretrospektive zu Korngold im Filmmuseum und Stadtführungen zu den ehemaligen Wohnhäusern und Wirkstätten des Künstlers initiiert. Das Ziel der genannten Aktivitäten ist, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, der einst zu den bedeutendsten und beliebtesten Komponisten Wiens zählte und sich zuletzt nach seiner erzwungenen Emigration in seiner Heimatstadt als vergessen glaubte, wieder ins Bewusstsein der Österreicher zu rufen.
