Taking the concrete example of the Sinti girl Helene Weiß from Klagenfurt, the school project dealt with the fate of the Carinthian Roma and Sinti and a victims’ group under National Socialism. The 13-year-old Helene Weiß was taken to the “gypsy detention camp Lackenbach” in 1941, after which no further trace of her could be found. The aim of the project was to research the story of this Sinti girl in as much detail as possible with the students. The outcome was to be presented at the unveiling of the monument with a vigil being held at the site of the deportations and in a public event in Klagenfurt.

Anhand des konkreten Beispiels des Sinti-Mädchens Helene Weiß aus Klagenfurt setzt sich das Schulprojekt mit der Geschichte der Kärntner Roma und Sinti als Opfergruppe des Nationalsozialismus auseinander. Die 13-Jährige Helene Weiß wurde im Jahr 1941 ins 'Zigeuneranhaltelager Lackenbach' gebracht, wo sich ihre Spur verliert. Ziel des Projektes ist es, mit den SchülerInnen die Geschichte dieses Sinti-Mädchens möglichst genau zu recherchieren. Die Ergebnisse sollen anlässlich der Aufstellung des Denkmales mit einer Mahnwache am Ort der Deportation sowie in einer öffentlichen Abendveranstaltung in Klagenfurt präsentiert werden.
