In April 1945, around 1,200 Hungarian Jewish slave laborers were forced over the Pyhrn by the SS, Gestapo and people’s unit, many were shot by the side of the road and burned. Since 2006, the project 'Terrible paths - escape routes and dead ends' has been an extremely active local working group. Over 50 interviews were conducted with surviving eyewitnesses and historical documents were discovered and archived for further research. The cooperation with Hungarian researchers such as Prof. Szabolcs Szita, the Holocaust Museum Budapest and the viewing of the video testimonials of the Shoa Foundation led to the opportunity to meet with the victims of the terrible events. It was intended to invite survivors in order to be able to experience their stories personally and directly. Public discussions were also planned, as well as visits to schools.

Im April 1945 wurden etwa 1.200 jüdische ungarische Zwangsarbeiter von SS, Gestapo und Volkssturm über den Pyhrn getrieben, viele am Wegrand erschossen und verscharrt. Seit Oktober 2006 hat sich um das Projekt 'Furchtbare Wege - Fluchtwege und Sackgassen' eine äußerst aktive lokale Arbeitsgruppe gebildet. Es wurden über 50 Interviews mit ZeitzeugInnen geführt und historische Dokumente für die weitere Forschung erschlossen und archiviert. Die Zusammenarbeit mit ungarischen Forschern wie Prof. Szabolcs Szita, Holocaust Museum Budapest und die Sichtung der Videozeugnisse der Shoa-Foundation führten zur Möglichkeit der Kontaktaufnahme mit Überlebenden der grauenvollen Ereignisse. Es ist daran gedacht, Überlebende einzuladen, um ihre Berichte auch persönlich und direkt erfahrbar zu machen. Öffentliche Diskussionsveranstaltungen sind ebenso geplant wie Besuche in Schulen.
