Broschüre mit Lernmaterialien zum Centropa Film "Leo Luster - Die Vergangenheit ist ein anderes Land!"

 

The aim of this project is to produce a 50-page brochure containing teaching materials and key educational questions to accompany the Centropa film “The Past is a Foreign Country” to facilitate its use in Austrian schools, above all in history lessons. The Viennese association Centropa interviewed the Jewish eyewitness and Holocaust survivor Leo Luster, who was born in 1927 in Vienna, in his new homeland, Israel, in 2011. Leo Luster not only told his life story but he also shared 71 family photos with our interviewer, Tanja Eckstein. The photos were scanned at our Vienna office and added to his biography on our website. The brochure shall contain a short historical essay on the persecution of the Jews in Austria and on the Holocaust. In addition, it will also contain a timeline showing general events that related to Leo Luster’s personal experiences and a glossary with historical terminology and maps. Educational key questions on the film with activities for students to complete in class and interview excerpts with accompanying questions for lessons complete the project.

Vorhaben des hier beschriebenen Projekts ist es, begleitend zum Centropa Film „Die Vergangenheit ist ein anderes Land: Ein Film über Leo Luster” eine etwa 50-seitige Broschüre mit Lehrmaterialien und pädagogischen Leitfragen zu erstellen, die in österreichischen Schulen den Einsatz des Films vor allem im Geschichtsunterricht erleichtern wird. Der Wiener Verein Centropa interviewte 2011 den 1927 in Wien geborenen jüdischen Zeitzeugen und Holocaustüberlebenden Leo Luster in seiner jetzigen Heimat Israel. Leo Luster erzählte nicht nur seine Lebensgeschichte, sondern er teilte auch 71 Familienfotos mit unserer Interviewerin Tanja Eckstein. Die Fotos wurden in unserem Wiener Büro eingescannt und zu der Biographie auf unsere Website gestellt. Die Broschüre soll einen kurzen historischen Essay zur Judenverfolgung in Österreich und zum Holocaust beinhalten. Des Weiteren soll sie eine Zeitlinie mit allgemeinen Ereignissen beinhalten, die mit Leo Lusters persönlichen Erlebnissen verknüpft ist sowie einen Glossar mit historischen Begriffen und Landkarten. Pädagogische Leitfragen zum Film mit Unterrichtsaktivitäten für SchülerInnen und Interview-Auszüge mit begleitenden Fragen für den Unterricht runden das Projekt ab.
