Camaradas. Österreicher im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg 1936–1939

 

The association “prenninger discussions” developed its program for this year, the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, on this subject. A large number of Austrians participated in the Civil War as part of an international movement of solidarity. A documentary photo exhibition will be displayed in the Cultural Guesthouse Prenning near Graz, “Camaradas. Austrians in the Spanish Civil War 1936–1939”. It will then move to various cultural institutions and universities as a traveling exhibition. An exhibition of artistic materials – pictures, objects, photos, posters, original documents – will be opened under the title “Our Heart is International: Styrians in the Spanish Civil War” at the Land House Feuerlöscher. In addition, a unique symposium is planned for the German-speaking world, which will be held from 5th to 7th October 2016 at the Graz Museum. In this symposium the constant factors in both historical terms and in terms of the policies of remembrance of the Austrian contribution to the democratic outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in reaction to General Franco’s Fascist regime will be analyzed.

Der Verein „prenninger gespräche“ hat sein Jahresprogramm aus Anlass des 80. Jahrestages des Ausbruches des Spanischen Bürgerkrieges 1936 unter das Thema des Spanischen Bürgerkriegs gestellt, an dem auch zahlreiche Österreicher als internationale Solidarbewegung teilgenommen haben. In der Kulturpension Prenning bei Graz wird eine dokumentarische Fotoausstellung „Camaradas. Österreicher und Österreicherinnen im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg 1936–1939” zu sehen sein. Diese soll 2017 als Wanderausstellung an Kulturinstitute und Universitäten weiter gehen. Eine Ausstellung von künstlerischen Dokumenten – Bilder, Objekte, Fotos, Plakate, Originaldokumente – unter dem Titel „Unser Herz ist international; Steirerinnen und Steirer im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg" wird im Landhaus Feuerlöscher eröffnet. Darüber hinaus ist ein im deutschen Sprachraum singuläres Symposion geplant, das vom 5. bis 7. Oktober 2016 im Graz Museum stattfinden wird. Dabei sollen – aus einer internationalen Perspektive betrachtet – die historischen und gedächtnispolitischen Konstanten des Beitrags der ÖsterreicherInnen am demokratischen Aufbruch des Spanischen Bürgerkriegs als Reaktion auf das faschistische Regime General Francos analysiert werden.
