Pictures play a key role in connection with Jura Soyfer, who died of typhoid fever on 16 February 1939 at the age of 26 in Buchenwald concentration camp. When he still lived, it was Bil Spira, who had to leave the country following the occupation of Austria in 1938 and died in Paris exile, who drew the caricatures for Jura Soyfer’s poems and the scenery for the performances of his plays in the underground. In memory of a victim of the Nazis, from 25 to 27 November 2016 a symposium will take place that will be co-funded by the City of Vienna, the Federal Chancellery and a range of other institutions.

Bilder spielen im Zusammenhang mit Jura Soyfer, der am 16.02.1939 mit 26 Jahren im Konzentrationslager Buchenwald an Typhus verstarb, eine entscheidende Rolle. Zu Lebzeiten war es Bil Spira, der nach der Besetzung Österreichs im Jahre 1938 das Land verlassen musste und im Exil Paris verstarb, der Karikaturen für die Gedichte Soyfers anfertigte und ebenso Bühnenbilder für die Aufführungen seiner Stücke im Untergrund. In Gedenken an ein Opfer des Nationalsozialismus wird nun vom 25. bis 27. November 2016 ein Symposium stattfinden, das von der Stadt Wien, dem Bundeskanzleramt sowie einer Vielzahl von Institutionen gefördert wird.
