In this work, autobiographical recollections and individual testimonies of Jewish women were investigated for the specific dynamics of the female Jewish identity constructions; the location between the East and West played a prominent role. In this regard, holdings from the Leo Baeck Institute in New York and as yet unpublished material from the Austrian Heritage Collection was used. In the context of this work, reference was also made to the discourse about memory and autobiography. With only few exceptions, the autobiographical texts were written after 1945, so the aspect of collective grief in connecting with the Shoa was also examined.

Im Rahmen der Arbeit wurden autobiographische Erinnerungen und Selbstzeugnisse jüdischer Frauen auf die spezifische Dynamik jüdisch-weiblicher Identitätskonstruktionen untersucht, wobei die Verortung zwischen Ost und West eine zentrale Stellung einnahm. In diesem Zusammenhang wurden erstmals weite Bestände aus der Memoirensammlung am Leo Baeck Institute in New York sowie bislang unveröffentlichtes Material aus der 'Austrian Heritage Collection' behandelt, wobei im Kontext der Arbeit auch auf den Diskurs um Erinnerung und Autobiographie Bezug genommen wurde. Die autobiographischen Texte wurden bis auf wenige Ausnahmen nach 1945 verfasst, so dass dabei im Zusammenhang mit den Erfahrungen der Shoa auch der Aspekt einer kollektiven Trauerarbeit zum Tragen kommt.
