The Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies will hold an international workshop in cooperation with the International Research Center for Cultural Sciences – Linz University of Art. The workshop aims to take a critical look at the ideas and writings of the Jewish-American political theorist, philosopher and publicist Hannah Arendt on totalitarianism, democracy, ability for critical thought, evil and the past and present debates on these subjects. The workshop is intended to appeal to academics from various disciplines and practitioners from associations, schools and institutions for historical and political education. In addition, political representatives, students, school pupils and an interested public will be invited to participate and join in the discussions. A panel of experts will select the contributions from the 44 submissions made in response to a call for papers. The members of the panel were Prof. Dr. Natan Sznaider from the Academic College in Tel Aviv, university lecturer Dr. Éva Kovacs from the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Macho from the International Research Center of Cultural Sciences (IFK).

Das Wiener Wiesenthal Institut für Holocaust-Studien (VWI) wird gemeinsam mit dem Internationalen Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften – Kunstuniversität Linz (IFK) einen internationalen Workshop veranstalten. Der Workshop soll sich kritisch mit dem Denken und den Schriften der jüdisch-deutschamerikanischen politischen Theoretikerin, Philosophin und Publizistin Hannah Arendt zu Totalitarismus, Demokratie, kritischem Urteilsvermögen, dem Bösen und damit in Zusammenhang stehenden Debatten in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart befassen. Die Tagung soll WissenschaftlerInnen aus verschiedenen Disziplinen genauso ansprechen wie PraktikerInnen aus Vereinen, Schulen und Institutionen der historisch-politischen Bildung. Des Weiteren sollen auch politische VertreterInnen, Studierende, SchülerInnen und eine interessierte Öffentlichkeit eingeladen sein an der Veranstaltung teilzunehmen und mitzudiskutieren. Die Beiträge wurden aus insgesamt 44 Einreichungen, denen ein Call for Paper vorausging, von einem ExpertInnen-Gremium ausgewählt. Dem Gremium gehörten Prof. Dr. Natan Sznaider vom Academic College in Tel Aviv, Univ-Doz. Dr. Éva Kovacs vom Wiener Wiesenthal Institut für Holocaust-Studien (VWI) und Prof. Dr. Thomas Macho vom Internationalen Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften (IFK) an.
