Die Stadt ohne Juden. Das audiovisuelle Gedächtnis in Österreich 1918–1938

 

In view of the great jubilee year of the Republic, 2018, the Film Archive Austria proposes to develop an exhibition to bring Austrian audio-visual memory to the public as part of a multimedia exhibition. The Austrian silent film production of the City Without Jews will be presented as the central film with a great symbolic value. Within the scope of the exhibition the mezzanine level of the Metro House of Cinematic Culture will host a “cinema of memories” (with surviving eyewitnesses) in cooperation with the Austrian Broadcaster ORF. Here, the recollection of the last surviving witnesses of the First Republic will be collected and documented. The team of curators is creating “Formations of Memory” using photos and historical cinematic documents and, in doing so, is creating a lively historical space, a “museum in motion”, which will be fed with new cinematic images and recollections over the course of the exhibition’s duration.

Im Hinblick auf das große Republik-Jubiläum 2018 schlägt das Filmarchiv Austria die Konzeption einer Ausstellung vor, die das audiovisuelle Gedächtnis Österreichs im Rahmen einer multimedialen Ausstellung in die Öffentlichkeit trägt. Als zentraler Film mit hoher Symbolwirkung wird dabei die österreichische Stummfilmproduktion die Stadt ohne Juden dargestellt. Im Rahmen der Ausstellung soll im Mezzanin des Metro Kinokulturhauses in Kooperation mit dem ORF ein „Kino der Erinnerungen“, eine Zeitzeugen-Station eingerichtet werden. Dabei werden die Erinnerungen der letzten ZeitzeugInnen der Ersten Republik gesammelt und filmisch dokumentiert. Das Kuratoren Team erstellt in Verbindung mit Fotos und historischen Filmdokumenten „Formationen der Erinnerung“ und schafft somit einen lebendigen Geschichts-Raum, ein „Museum in Motion“, das im Lauf der Ausstellungsdauer mit immer neuen Filmbildern und Erinnerungen gespeist wird.
