The Baranka Park remembrance ceremony on 20 May 2017 will be organized for the ninth time by the Association Voice of Diversity and put into practice with the aim of reminding the public about the Roma and Sinti that were deported by the Nazi regime in 1941, and to send a signal against forgetting. For a long time the Hellerwiese in the 10th District – today called Baranka Park – was a camping and rest area for the Sinti, Roma and Lovara families, who traded their rugs, fabrics and horses as far away as the Graz Basin. This historical location was named after Harri Stojka’s great grandmother Baranka. She and around 200 other family members who had lived on the Hellerwiese field were deported by the Nazi regime. The Roma as victims of National Socialism barely feature public awareness, which is why Roma and Sinti are often called the “forgotten victims”. The program features the following participants: the music group Elemu from the elementary school in Bernhardtgasse, the Favoriten Music School, the Roma Choir, Doron Rabinovici, Harri Stojka and Gitan Coeur, Peter Schwarz, Shlomit Butbul & Band, Lilian Hofmeister, Roland Neuwirth and Erich Fenninger.

Die Baranka Park Gedenkfeier wird am 20. Mai 2017 zum neunten Mal vom Verein Voice of Diversity organisiert und mit dem Ziel umgesetzt, die Öffentlichkeit an die Roma und Sinti, die vom NS-Regime im Jahr 1941 verschleppt worden sind, zu erinnern und ein Zeichen gegen das Vergessen zu setzen. Lange Zeit war die Hellerwiese im 10. Bezirk – heute Baranka Park benannt – Lager- und Rastplatz der Sinti, Roma und Lovarafamilien, die mit ihren Teppichen, Stoffen und Pferden Handel bis in das Grazer Becken betrieben hatten. Dieser historische Ort wurde nach Harri Stojkas Ur-Großmutter Baranka benannt. Sie und circa 200 weitere Familienmitglieder, die auf der Hellerwiese gelebt hatten, wurden 1941 vom NS-Regime verschleppt. Die Roma als Opfer des Nationalsozialismus sind im öffentlichen Bewusstsein kaum verankert, weshalb Roma und Sinti oft als „die vergessenen Opfer“ bezeichnet werden. An dem Programm nehmen folgende Teilnehmer teil: die Musikgruppe Elemu der Volksschule Bernhardtstalgasse, die Musikschule Favoriten, der Roma Chor, Doron Rabinovici, Harri Stojka & Gitan Coeur, Peter Schwarz, Shlomit Butbul & Band, Lilian Hofmeister, Roland Neuwirth und Erich Fenninger.
