Wolfgang Suschitzky was born in Vienna in 1912. His father was a Social Democrat. His father Wilhelm opened the first Socialist workers’ bookshop in Vienna with his brother Philipp, amid great resistance. Together, they founded Anzengruber Publishers. Wolf speaks of the problems with the publishers and about the publishing program. His sister, Edith Tudor-Hart studied Photography at the Bauhaus in Dessau, trained with Maria Montessori and was arrested in Vienna for Communist activities. Following her release she emigrated to London. Wolf describes his teacher at the Education and Research Institute for Graphics and his “Heimat” photography, which was used by the Austrofascists and the Nazis as propaganda. He also recalls the illegal Nazis at the universities, who, following the ban on the brown shirts, wore white socks to show their true allegiance. In 1933 Wolf emigrated to London. He managed to bring his mother Adele and sister to London in time. In London the German bombing raids caught up with him and he had to help fight the fires. He documented the damage in his photos and filmed documentaries on the help that was provided in response to the air raids. Wolf Suschitzky died on 7 October 2016.

Wolfgang Suschitzky wurde 1912 in Wien als Sohn jüdischer Sozialdemokraten geboren. Sein Vater Wilhelm eröffnete unter großem Widerstand mit seinem Bruder Philipp die erste sozialistische Arbeiter-Buchhandlung in Wien, und gemeinsam gründeten sie den Anzengruber Verlag. Wolf spricht über die Probleme des Verlages sowie über das Verlagsprogramm. Seine Schwester Edith Tudor-Hart studierte am Bauhaus in Dessau Fotografie, machte eine Ausbildung bei Maria Montessori und wurde als Kommunistin in Wien verhaftet. Sie emigrierte nach ihrer Freilassung nach London. Wolf erzählt über seinen Lehrer an der Grafischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt und dessen „Heimatfotografie“, welche von den Austrofaschisten, wie von den Nazis als Propagandamittel verwendet wurde. Weiter erinnert er sich an die illegalen Nazis an den Universitäten, welche nach dem Uniformverbot der braunen Hemden als Kennzeichen weiße Socken trugen. 1933 emigrierte Wolf nach London. Es gelang ihm seine Mutter Adele und seine Schwester rechtzeitig nach London nachzuholen. Auch in London wurde er von den Bombenangriffen der Deutschen eingeholt und musste bei der Brandbekämpfung mithelfen. Er dokumentierte Schäden fotografisch und drehte Dokumentarfilme über die Hilfeleistung bei Bombenangriffen. Wolf Suschitzky verstarb am 7. Oktober 2016.
