On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the events surrounding the Anschluss in 1938, the film sets out to trace the background of the "Anschluss" in Linz. Contemporary witnesses, historians and archivists will provide insights and memories from various perspectives. Intensive research in a wide variety of archives and media will result in an interesting and dense documentary that informs, reminds and allows viewers to experience. The social, political and personal circumstances also show how the connection was made possible without much resistance. The reduction of unemployment, economic upswing and hope for a better life were motivation to adapt to the Nazi system, to integrate and to look the other way. But many also used the upheaval to actively participate and profit from it. Furthermore, it will be shown how quickly anti-Semitism, aryanization and deportation became reality. Already on the day of the Anschluss, Hitler discussed with leading party members the projects for the expansion of his sponsored city Linz – economically, culturally and strategically.

Zum Anlass des 80. Gedenkjahres der Ereignisse vom Anschluss 1938 macht sich der Film auf die Spurensuche nach den Hintergründen Zeit des „Anschlusses“ in Linz. ZeitzeugInnen, HistorikInnen und ArchivarInnen sollen Einblicke und Erinnerungen aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln geben. Durch intensive Recherche in den verschiedensten Archiven und Medien soll eine interessante und dichte Dokumentation entstehen, die informiert, erinnert und miterleben lässt. Auch die sozialen, politischen und persönlichen Umstände zeigen wodurch der Anschluss ohne großen Widerstand ermöglicht wurde. Die Reduzierung der Arbeitslosigkeit, wirtschaftlicher Aufschwung und Hoffnung auf ein besseres Leben waren Motivation sich dem Nazi-System anzupassen, einzugliedern und wegzuschauen. Viele nutzten aber auch den Umbruch um sich aktiv zu beteiligen und davon zu profitieren. Weiters soll gezeigt werden wie rasend schnell Antisemitismus, Arisierung und Deportation zur Realität wurde. Schon am Tag des Anschlusses besprach Hitler mit führenden Parteimitgliedern die Projekte zum Ausbau seiner Patenstadt Linz – wirtschaftlich, kulturell und strategisch.
