Description

This film juxtaposes the change in official state historiography that goes hand in hand with the renewal of the Austrian national exhibition in Auschwitz-Birkenau, as well as the process and the many aspects of the redesign of this exhibition, with the last personal legacy of the surviving eyewitnesses to their grandchildren or great-grandchildren. The window of time in which the renewal will take place is the one through which the witnesses will be able to look one last time before it closes forever. The last survivors today were about ten years old at the time of the “Anschluss”. Surviving eyewitnesses from the victims and the perpetrator/follower group tell their grandchildren or great-grandchildren, who are now about 10 to 15 years old, their personal history and memories of the Nazi era and their experiences in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. The intention is to deliberately avoid the classic interview situation - there is no professional questioner. The stories will not be commented on, which should make the different narrative styles visible. The film will have a minimum running time of 90 minutes and a maximum of 120 minutes.
