The Leo Baeck Institute New York has been collecting documents and interviews since 1996 to document the lives of Jews from Austria in the USA. The project was also carried out with Austrian cooperating partners at the Leo Baeck institute in New York. With the support of the National Fund it was possible to interview 90 people. The material and interviews collected have been recorded in the database and can be searched through. The aim of the second phase of the project in Jerusalem is to include all those who have declared themselves willing to be interviewed and to request their permission to review the documents documenting their life story. These materials (letters, diaries, official documents, materials on Jewish life in Austria and Jeschuv/Israel, photographs and autobiographies) will be scanned if possible. On the basis of these interviews the second step will be to arrange interviews. Since the oldest immigrants were contacted and interviewed in the first phase of the project, the institute assumes that a whole series of conversations will be able to be conducted and recorded in a second phase.

Seit 1996 werden am Leo Baeck Institut New York Dokumente gesammelt und Interviews geführt, um das Leben der aus Österreich stammenden Jüdinnen und Juden in den USA zu dokumentieren. Das Projekt wurde mit österreichischen Kooperationspartnern auch am Leo Baeck Institut in Israel durchgeführt. Mit der Unterstützung des Nationalfonds konnten damals 90 Personen interviewt werden. Die gesammelten Materialien und Interviews sind in die Datenbank aufgenommen worden und dort recherchierbar. Das Ziel der zweiten Projektphase in Jerusalem ist es, zunächst all jene Personen aufzunehmen, die sich für ein Interview bereit erklärt haben und um Einsicht in Dokumente zu bitten, die ihre Lebensgeschichte dokumentieren. Diese Materialien (Briefe, Tagebücher, offizielle Dokumente, Material zum jüdischen Leben in Österreich und im Jeschuv/Israel, Fotografien sowie Autobiographien) sollen nach Möglichkeit eingescannt werden. Basierend auf diesen Unterlagen sollen dann in einem zweiten Schritt Interviews vereinbart werden. Da in der ersten Projektphase zunächst die ältesten Einwanderinnen und Einwanderer kontaktiert und interviewt wurden, geht das Institut davon aus, in einer zweiten Projektphase noch eine ganze Reihe von Gesprächen führen und aufzeichnen zu können. .
