The department store was founded by Leopold Dichter in 1890. In the 1930s it was the largest department store in Vienna outside of the Gürtel. In November 1938 it was aryanized by the banking house owner Edmund Topolansky. The shop existed on Brunnenmarkt under the name OSEI until 2004. During the exhibition “Dichter autumn – 100 years of Ernst Dichter” (5 to 20 October 2007) the history of the family was remembered in various exhibition rooms and public spaces along the Grundsteingasse.

Das Warenhaus wurde 1890 von Leopold Dichter gegründet. Es war in den 1930er-Jahren das größte Warenhaus in Wien außerhalb des Gürtels. Im November 1938 wurde es vom Bankhausbesitzer Edmund Topolansky arisiert. Unter dem Namen OSEI bestand das Geschäft am Brunnenmarkt bis 2004. Während der geplanten Ausstellung 'Dichterherbst - 100 years Ernest Dichter' (vom 5. bis 20. Oktober 2007) wird entlang der Grundsteingasse in verschiedenen Ausstellungsräumen und im öffentlichen Raum die Geschichte der Familie Dichter wieder in Erinnerung gebracht.
