Monographie zum Restitutionsfall Raoul Korty

Project

Description

Raoul Korty, born in 1889 as son of a Jewish banking family, had a passion for collecting from a early age. The loss of his livelihood and the separation from his non-Jewish wife in 1938 probably also led to the failure of his plans to emigrate. In 1944, Korty was arrested in Vienna and murdered in Auschwitz at the end of the same year. The restitution case regarding his photo collection was one of the biggest and most complex of the Austrian National Library. The publication appeared as a accompaniment to the exhibition in the festival hall of the Austrian National Library in February 2008, in which the case was presented to a wider public.
