Ina Markova investigates the Austrian visual memory of the Second Republic in relation to visual representations of the Nazi era. She analyzes school history books, exhibitions, newspapers and magazines and picture books. The aim of the book is a longitudinal analysis of Austrian visual history after 1945. The reasons why certain periods of the Nazi era, whose representations are honed in on, were consciously glossed over or consciously shown at which times are of particular interest.

Ina Markova untersucht das österreichische Bildgedächtnis der Zweiten Republik in Bezug auf Visualisierungen der NS-Zeit. Dabei wurden Geschichtsschulbücher, Ausstellungen, Zeitungen/Zeitschriften und Bildbände analysiert. Das Ziel des Buchs ist eine Längsschnittanalyse des österreichischen Bildgedächtnisses nach 1945. Von besonderem Interesse sind dabei die Gründe, warum bestimmte Perioden der NS-Zeit, deren Repräsentationen im Fokus stehen, zu welchem Zeitpunkt bewusst gezeigt oder bewusst ausgeblendet wurden.
