Description
The grounds of the Nordbahnhof (Northern Railway Station) is currently one of the biggest urban development areas of Vienna. Following the master plan of the architectural firm Vlay Steeruwitz, the empty center is what makes this area unique. Today, in 2018 there is no reminder whatsoever that indicates that the railway yard of the Nordbahnhof served as part of the deportation machinery of the Nazi terror regime. After the first year of the project, which is planned to run for three years, a comprehensive historical reappraisal on deportations from the Nordbahnhof is scheduled to take place and an artistic memorial campaign shall be realized.

Das Nordbahnhof Areal ist derzeit eines der größten innerstädtischen Stadtentwicklungsgebiete von Wien. Spezifisch für das Areal ist dem Masterplan des Wiener Architekturbüros Vlay Streeruwitz folgend die „Freie Mitte“. Heute, im Jahr 2018, gibt es in diesem neuen Stadtentwicklungsgebiet keinerlei Erinnerung daran, dass der Nordbahnhofteil der Deportationsmaschinerie des Nazi-Terrorregimes war. Geplant ist, dass nach dem ersten Jahr des auf drei Jahre angelegten Projekts eine erste gründliche historische Aufarbeitung zu den Deportationen vom Nordbahnhof vorliegt und eine künstlerische Gedenkaktion realisiert worden ist.
