Jüdisches Filmfestival 2018 – Shalom Austria

 

The Jewish Film Festival Vienna contains two areas of focus in 2018: 70 years of Israel and the centenary of the founding of the Republic of Austria. In the first part “Servus Israel” (Hello Israel) a varied selection of historical and contemporary movies on the Jewish State were showed. In the second part, Shalom Austria, an overview of the history of Jewish life in the past 100 years in Austria will be depicted. The Holocaust is being approached in different ways. Contemporary witnesses will be invited to portray their experiences to the audience. In an event video testimonies by contemporary witnesses from Vienna shall be presented. Steven Spielbergs’ Schindlers List as well as the movie “Die Unsichbaren – Wir wollen leben” (The Invisibles) are scheduled to be screened at the cinema as well as in schools within the scope of workshops. The movie version of Joseph Roth’s novels about the decline of the monarchy and the rise of National Socialism are also fixed items on the program. The rescue of people who emigrated to Israel will also be a subject of discussion.

2018 beinhaltet das jüdische Filmfestival Wien zwei Schwerpunkte: 70 Jahre Israel und 100 Jahre Republik. Im ersten Teil „Servus Israel“ wurde eine vielfältige Auswahl historischer und zeitgenössischer Filme über den jüdischen Staat gezeigt. Im zweiten Teil, Shalom Austria, wird ein Längsschnitt durch die Geschichte jüdischen Lebens der letzten 100 Jahren in Österreich gezeigt. Die Zeit der Shoah wird auf unterschiedliche Weise behandelt. Es werden ZeitzeugInnen eingeladen, um dem Publikum ihre Erlebnisse zu schildern. In einer Veranstaltung sollen Videoberichte von ZeitzeugInnen aus Wien gezeigt werden. Es wird geplant Steven Spielbergs Schindlers Liste sowohl im Kino als auch im Rahmen von Workshops an Schulen sowie den Film „Die Unsichtbaren – Wir wollen leben“ zu zeigen. Verfilmungen von Josef Roths Romanen über Niedergang der Monarchie und dem Aufkommen des Nationalsozialismus sind ebenfalls fixe Punkte des Programms. Die Rettung vieler Menschen nach Israel wird ebenfalls thematisiert.
