Project

Description

The project submitted is for the construction of a memorial for the approximately 10,000 Austrians of Jewish origin who were deported from Vienna to Minsk in the months between May and October 1942 and murdered at the extermination site of Maly Trostinec. Austria is thus embarking on the path of national remembrance. The winning entry “The Massif of Names” by Daniel Sanwald was chosen unanimously. Upon completion of the planning work in Vienna - once a clay model 1:1 has been made and subsequently a 1:1 mold - the memorial for the Austrian victims in Maly Trostinec will be cast in concrete at the end of September / beginning of October. An official inauguration in the Year of Remembrance 2018, in November at the latest, is being sought in order to finally commemorate and remember the events in Maly Trostinec, where almost 10,000 people were cruelly murdered solely because they were Jewish.
