The aim of the project is a 45-minute TV documentary on the subject of “euthanasia” under National Socialism, focusing on the two Austrian institutions at Spiegelgrund and Hartheim Castle. It focuses on the development of the killing system that was later continued in the Nazi extermination camps. What began with harmless body measurements developed through experiments on sick people to the targeted killing of "useless" life. Hospital beds, personnel and medicines were needed for other people, orphans, alcoholics, hard-to-treat adolescents, women and men with disabilities - all who did not perform any service for the Nazi state and were therefore singled out. Assessments and scientific details from experts, together with touching individual fates, provide an overall picture of the killing machinery and place it in ist historical context. The film is shot at the original locations.

Das Ziel des Projekts ist eine 45-minütige TV-Dokumentation zum Thema „Euthanasie“ im Nationalsozialismus mit Schwerpunkt auf den beiden österreichischen Anstalten am Spiegelgrund und am Schloss Hartheim. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Entwicklung des Tötungssystems, das in späterer Folge in den nationalsozialistischen Vernichtungslagern fortgeführt wurde. Was mit harmlosen Körper-Vermessungen begann, entwickelte sich über Experimente an Kranken hin zur gezielten Tötung „unbrauchbaren“ Lebens. Krankenhausbetten, Personal und Medikamente wurden für andere Personen gebraucht, Waisen, Alkoholkranke, schwererziehbare Jugendliche, Frauen und Männer mit Behinderungen – sie alle erbrachten keine Leistung für den NS-Staat und wurden daher ausgesondert. Einschätzungen und wissenschaftliche Details von ExpertInnen ergeben gemeinsam mit berührenden Einzelschicksalen ein Gesamtbild der Tötungsmaschinerie und stellen sie in den zeithistorischen Kontext. Gedreht wird an Originalschauplätzen.
