The Kobersdorf “temple”, as it was called by Jews and non-Jews alike, is the only preserved community synagogue of the famous Jewish “seven communities” (Schewa Kehilot) in Burgenland. Devastated during the war, left to rack and ruin for decades after the war, in 1995 it was purchased by the Association for the Preservation and Cultural Use of the Kobersdorf Synagogue in order to preserve it as a memorial for the obliterated Jewish community and to restore it step by step. The subject of the program for this years Culture in the Temple is surviving the Holocaust.

Der Kobersdorfer 'Tempel', wie er von Juden und Nichtjuden genannt wurde, ist die einzige erhaltene Gemeindesynagoge der berühmten jüdischen 'Siebengemeinden' (Schewa Kehilot) des Burgenlandes. Während des Nationalsozialismus verwüstet, nach dem Krieg jahrzehntelang dem Verfall preisgegeben, wurde sie 1995 vom Verein zur Erhaltung und kulturellen Nutzung der Synagoge Kobersdorf gekauft, um sie als Denkmal für die ausgelöschten jüdischen Gemeinden zu erhalten und schrittweise zu sanieren. Der diesjährige Themenschwerpunkt des Programms Kultur im Tempel ist dem Überleben der Shoa gewidmet.
