Description

The occasion for this biographical film is a reminiscence of Ilse von Twardowski, who seems to have disappeared from memory in Austria. The sculptress, who has been largely forgotten today, is one of the most important artists of the early 20th century in Austria. The film documents the search for clues in Vienna and Munich, for the life and work of the versatile artist. The focus of the artistic research is on Ilse Twardowski's estate in the Munich City Archive, her works and interviews. The estate (65 files) is both a content-related and artistic legacy. Alternating between filming at original locations, digitized archive material, read-in off-commentaries, historical film footage and interviews on the life and work of the artist, the film also provides a fragmentary insight into the life of her daughter "Ivo" Elisabeth and her memories during the Nazi era. Parallel to this, the film sheds light on a historical and politically extremely interesting, upper middle-class Jewish family history of Vienna until 1938.

Jahrhunderts in Österreich.
